BDO History

The history of BDO’s foundation and development is an excellent example of fast expansion and quick response to the changing market environment and client needs.

BDO was founded in Europe in 1963, when several progressively-minded accounting firms in Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, the United States and Canada united their efforts to work for international clients. Initially, the young ambitious company built its reputation under the name Binder Seidman International Group, but since 1973 it has been known as BDO standing for Binder Dijker Otte & Co — the first founders of the company.

Structurally, the worldwide network began to shape in 1988, when it was decided to use the BDO brand name before the names of its national member firms. Introduction of a global brand name spells out to the world community that the local experience of the independent member firms has been combined with the international expertise and that all the members have access to BDO’s global resources.

On 1 January 2010 the BDO network of independent audit and consulting firms from 119 countries adopted the single global brand BDO, being the brand name for the entire BDO network and for each of the BDO member firms. Our move to a single global trading name demonstrates our commitment to provide highest quality services to our clients throughout the world and compete successfully on the international market.
